Food is Fuel: Colon Health

real advice

What you put in matters!

When it comes to health it is really important to make sure that you’re paying attention to what you’re eating.

Did you see what ABC had to say about Pepsi? A friend of mine once told me that she was always intrigued by the fact that Kool-Aid goes into the body red in color and comes out… Well… Let’s just say not red.

Her question was, where did the red go?

The answer… It is metabolized. That means that your body is absorbing it on some level.

We seldom stop to think that what we are ingesting is actually staying (residually) inside of our bodies. For example, right now, I’m sipping down on a monster orange ultra sunrise energy drink.

Should I be doing this? Heck no! I’m doing it because I need to stay awake.

But I know that it will have consequences. You know when I’ll know this? I’ll know it at 2 AM when I can’t sleep very well. The second way that I’ll know it is the fact that I am sure that I am over on my caffeine intake for the day so it might make me nervous or jittery.

Thank God I can pay attention to what is going on with me. When I noticed my emotions are getting a little wacky then I understand that I’m probably ingesting too much caffeine.

The funniest part about human beings is that we think that we can control what we are doing, however, we find in the long run that it seems like somebody else is in control.

Have you ever wondered why it’s hard to stay on a diet? Hard to exercise when you’re supposed to? I finally figured out the answer to this. Do you know what it is?

I mean… Why is it that when we are ultra committed that we still seem like we can’t make the right decisions at the right times? We can even go to the extent of writing it all down on the piece of paper, cooking all of our meals before the week starts, or even hire a personal trainer. Yet, that doesn’t seem to satisfy the problem.

The bottom line is that there is a fluctuation in willpower and we seem to not be able to control it. In the mornings a lot of times it’s easy to control what we but by evening we just want to blast through a bag of Oreo cookies.

So do you know what it is? You want me to give you a hint? How about this it starts with “o” and ends with “s.” Still don’t know? OK, let me tell you. It is simple it’s the way that life “occurs” for you in that moment.

Today when I woke up I didn’t want to have any caffeine. 12 hours later I’m popping open a sunrise monster energy blast to get me through the next few hours.

Why is that? It’s simple. I need to get all my work done for the day. Even though I’m sitting here writing this blog post.… A complete waste of time maybe? Maybe not. Maybe you’re in enjoying this or getting something out of it

The point is and I’ll summarize it for you is that all decisions are tied to the fact that you’re making them based on how things occur to you at the time.

If somebody were to throw a baseball at you then you might actually dive out-of-the-way right?

That is because it occurs to you that you better move or you’re going to get hurt. You didn’t wake up in the morning saying hey I don’t want to dive on the ground today.

You didn’t decide that you wanted to make sure that you stayed upright all day. You simply reacted to the way life felt for you at the time. You sensed the danger and decided to dive.

Likewise, if I don’t get all my work done, I sense danger. So, I crack open the best thing that will guarantee me to stay awake the longest. Life simply is occurring to me that way right now. It’s a must. Even though I’m committed to backing off of my caffeine intake in maintaining a healthier lifestyle here I am. But, I’m OK with it. Because I understand it.

And… Because I understand it, I can do something about it. I simply have to manage my life in a way that I don’t get stuck in the situation. The way to do that for me is to make sure I’m ahead of my work. If I am ahead, then, I won’t have to stay up later to finish the job.

The job will be done. There will be no added stress. I don’t have to pound the caffeine. It makes for a healthier, happier me. So, what I’m going to work on right now is simply getting ahead of the game.
